Former Longhorn Dylan Frittelli moves inside OWGR's top 64

AUSTIN, Texas – Former Texas Longhorn Dylan Frittelli made a move towards earning his way into the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play with a playoff victory at the European Tour’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. The victory helped Frittelli move inside the top 64 in the Official World Golf Ranking, where he will need to stay in order to qualify for a spot in the field at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play March 21-25 at Austin Country Club. Frittelli, who teamed up with Jordan Spieth to win the 2012 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at Texas, is one of three former Longhorns currently qualified along with Spieth and Jhonattan Vegas.

At last week’s limited-field HERO World Challenge, which included 11 of the top 20 players in the world, Rickie Fowler produced a thrilling come-from-behind victory that included an 11-birdie final-round performance to come from seven shots back to clear the field by four in the Bahamas. The win moved Fowler up to No. 7 in the world. In total, 17 of the 18 players in the HERO World Challenge would currently qualify for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play if it were held today.

Dustin Johnson, the winner of last year’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and the No. 1-ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking, finished T14 and will be back in action in four weeks at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui. Johnson’s win at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play was one of the most dominant in tournament history after leading a tournament-record 94 percent of the holes he played at Austin Country Club. With his win in Austin, he became the first player to win each of the four WGC events.

The 2018 Dell Technologies Match Play, the third of four World Golf Championships events during the 2017-18 season, returns to Austin Country Club on March 21-25, with a limited number of tickets still available. The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play is one of the most elite and exciting tournaments on golf’s calendar as one in a series of four World Golf Championships events sanctioned and organized by the operational committee of the International Federation of PGA Tours, which includes the Asian Tour, European Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA TOUR, PGA Tour of Australasia and Sunshine Tour. The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play field annually consists of the very best players from around the world from all Tours and traditionally features nearly all of the top 64 in the world.

Since its inception, the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play has generated more than $17 million for charity with the tournament announcing in early October that the 2017 edition raised over $1.1 million for five Austin-based charities.
