Committee Descriptions
Administrative/Office Support* - Assist PGA TOUR staff with general office duties prior to and throughout Championship Week. Duties include answering telephones, taking ticket orders, preparing mailings, maintaining the front office and greeting office guests. Volunteers are needed beginning in February. Every volunteer on this committee will work a minimum of 6 half day shifts. Shifts are half or full days and typically start at 7am and end at 6pm during tournament week. Shifts are shorter leading up to the event.
Admissions/Ambassadors – Act as a welcoming team and customer service for spectators. Greet and help direct spectators in various locations on and off course. Scan tickets using Ticketmaster equipment at each entrance and help troubleshoot digital ticket questions. Manage lost & found locations on-site. Shifts typically follow gate times. (Monday, March 21 – Sunday March 27)
Caddie Registration* - Supervise caddie registration and lounge area, check credentials, distribute and collect caddie bibs and towels. Provide general customer service to tournament caddies. Shifts start early in the morning. (Sunday, March 20 – Sunday, March 27)
Competition Support – ShotLink Location Based Operators (formerly Lasers) - Record and transmit shot locations of professionals to the ShotLink system, while stationed greenside or at fairway landing zones. Transmission achieved via the use of handheld palm pilots and stationary tripod cameras. ShotLink volunteers may be required to climb onto a platform which can be more than 6ft off the ground. ShotLink training required prior to tournament week. Location Based Operator shifts are organized into one shift per day during competition with shift times following tee times and play on each specific hole. Competition Support - ShotLink Spotters (formerly combination of Lasers and inside the ropes Marshals) - Assist the fairway operators with locating ball positions and identifying situations where the players shot may be obstructed. Located inside the ropes. Spotter shifts are organized into one shift per day during competition with shift times following tee times and play on each specific hole. Competition Support-Walking Scorers - Walk with a match to keep statistics and hole-by-hole records for each player. Due to the match play format**, most volunteers will be needed Wednesday – Friday** with a limited number required on the weekend. REQUIRES A LOT OF WALKING. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE STRONGLY PREFERRED. Corporate Hospitality - Host corporate sponsors in hospitality areas by meeting and greeting guests upon arrival, checking patrons for proper credentials, scan digital and printed tickets using Ticketmaster equipment, distribute daily wristbands, provide Championship information. Check hospitality venues each morning and report any issues to Committee Chairman (i.e. cleaning, televisions, A/C). Shifts are half or full days and typically start at 8am and end between 6 – 7pm. Evacuation - Assist in preparation and execution of evacuation during extenuating circumstances (i.e. inclement weather, matches which do not finish on hole 1 or 18, etc.). Volunteers will drive players, caddies and select volunteers in a combination of vehicles and golf carts. A driving background check will be required prior to the event. Shifts are half or full days and typically follow tee times. Volunteers must be at least 25 years old. (Monday, March 21 – Sunday March 27)
Gallery Management (formerly Marshals) - Responsible for crowd management, gallery noise control and player movement and will be stationed OUTSIDE THE ROPES. Gallery Management shifts are organized into one shift per day during competition with shift times following tee times and play on each specific hole. Shifts are broken into half days as needed on practice round days. Volunteers will be assigned to a specific hole for the week with a limited group used as roving marshals. Shifts are considered full day but typically follow tee times and vary by hole. (Monday, March 21 – Sunday March 27)
Golf Carts * - Responsible for cart set-up and distribution prior to and during Championship Week. Committee also ensures carts are returned and charged at the end of each day. Shifts are half or full days and typically start at 6am and end at 8pm. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to drive a cart & 25 to drive a passenger. (Saturday, March 19 – Sunday, March 27)
Honorary Observer Management – Help coordinate the honorary observer program in which selected guests are granted access to walk inside the ropes with each match. Assist with credential and uniform distribution/exchange, review specific guidelines and restrictions with each guest prior to their tee time, and manage photo process at the 1st tee. Shifts typically start at 7am and end at 3pm. (Wednesday, March 23 – Sunday, March 27)
Leaderboard/Bracket Status – Track player practice and competition rounds and manually update the bracket/leaderboard with player locations and match scores. Shifts typically start at 7am and end at 6pm. (Monday, March 21 – Sunday March 27)
Media Center - In conjunction with the PGA TOUR media representatives, oversee general operation of media center including media registration. Assist with special media needs during Championship Week. (Monday, March 21 – Sunday March 27)
On Course Shuttles - Provide cart transportation for volunteers to and from volunteer HQ/assigned positions. This committee will also provide cart transportation for disabled spectators to and from the bus drop at the main entrance and disabled parking to designated areas on the golf course. Please note, volunteers on this committee will most likely be driving a 6-passenger golf cart. S hifts are half or full days and typically start at 6am and end at 8pm. Volunteers must be at least 25 years old. (Monday, March 21 – Sunday March 27)
Player Shuttles - Provide cart transportation for players and caddies to/from specific areas determined and approved by rules committee (traditionally between holes 9 and 10 but may assist elsewhere as needed). Shifts are half or full days and typically start at 8am and end at 5pm. Volunteers must be at least 25 years old. (Monday, March 21 – Sunday March 27)
Player/VIP Transportation * - Inventory and inspect vehicles allotted to Championship and track cars assigned to players and VIP’s. Courtesy car drivers will transport players and VIP’s to and from Austin Country Club, Host Hotels, Austin Bergstrom International Airport and/or other destinations before, during, and after the Championship. A driving background check will be required prior to the event. Shifts are half or full days and typically start at 6am and end at 8pm (may be later on arrival and departure days). **Volunteers must be at least 25 years old. **(Friday, March 18 – Tuesday, March 29)
Special Events * - Assist with the coordination, set-up, tear-down, registration and operations for all special events prior to and during tournament week. Events include but are not limited to: Media Day, Volunteer Appreciation Party, Draw Show, Am-Am golf outing, Corporate Cup, and others TBD.
Standard Bearers - To accompany each group of players with a standard that bears their names and the match status. Due to the match play format, most volunteers will be needed Wednesday – Friday with a limited number required on the weekend. REQUIRES A LOT OF WALKING – LIMITED TO YOUTH VOLUNTEERS ONLY. (Wednesday, March 23 – Sunday, March 27)
Supply Distribution - Distribute printed materials, incoming packages from FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. and other goods to various locations throughout the course by golf cart. Handle distribution of water to volunteers as well as distribute on course refreshments for players and staff. Shifts are half or full days and typically start at 6am and end at 8pm. HEAVY LIFTING REQUIRED. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to drive a cart & 25 to drive a passenger. (Saturday, March 19 – Sunday, March 27)
Volunteer Headquarters & Uniform Distribution* - Inventory and distribute volunteer apparel and package contents. Responsibilities include management of uniform distribution, apparel exchanges, sales and returns. Uniform Distribution will take place in the weeks prior to Championship Week. Within volunteer headquarters, an area for the exclusive use of credentialed and working volunteers, this committee will assist in selling merchandise and volunteer check-in. Shifts are half or full days and typically start at 6am and end at 6pm. (Volunteers work weekends prior to Championship week & Monday, March 21 – Sunday, March 27)
Volunteer Services – Assist volunteers with on-course needs and distribute various goods throughout the course by golf cart. Shifts are half or full days and typically start at 6:30am and end at 8pm. HEAVY LIFTING REQUIRED. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to drive a cart & 25 to drive a passenger. (Monday, March 21 – Sunday March 27)
Will Call - Work in conjunction with PGA TOUR staff in operating an off-course ticket sales office along with a pick-up and drop-off location for last-minute ticket requests. This committee will also assist with digital ticket customer services and troubleshooting. Shifts are full or half days and typically follow will call hours and gate times. 1) ALL committees will hold an orientation session during the month of March 2022. Your Committee Chairman will provide you with dates and locations as they are determined.
2) You will be notified of dates, times and location for uniform distribution prior to the event. If you cannot attend a distribution session, please contact your assigned Committee Chairman.
